IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leon E.
Procknow
April 28, 1936 – September 25, 2024
Leon E. Procknow, age 88, of Madison, Wi. passed away at his home on September 25, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends...
Leon was born on April 28, 1936, in Dodgeville, Wi. to Alice G. and Clayton W. Procknow, raised in the small town of Blackhawk, Wi., he eventually settled in and called Madison, Wi. his home. A man of many interests and hobbies he traveled around the world and visited many countries, in his early years he attended Sauk Prairie Schools and was active in sports as well as the FFA and was interested in agriculture and farming. While in school he took pride in showing his livestock at various fairs around the state for which garnered him several blue ribbons and various other awards. After his graduation he chose to attend UW Stevens Point majoring in Conservation and Forestry, he then enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood before his deployment to Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to Madison and took a job with Oscar Mayer and Co. for which he spent the next forty years, retiring from there in 1999.
Leon met Shirley A. Counselman in 1959 and they married shortly thereafter, this union ultimately produced a son, David A. Procknow on February 1,1962, which arguably was the best thing that ever happened.
Leon was quite the traveler, he was an active member of the Friendship Force International, he was a SCI, NRA, FNAWS, and RMEF member... his big game hunts took him around the world. When not hunting or fishing you could find him at home working on his lawn, training his dogs, or spending time at the "farm" in Richland County chasing deer and turkey or playing around with his tractor. As a veteran Leon was flown to Washington D.C. as part of Honor Flight Wisconsin and was greeted and got to shake hands with President Donald Trump.
Leon is survived by his son, David A. Procknow, a sister Jayne F. Sprecher, two nieces, Pamela (Tony) Wood and Wendy (Greg) Shanklin and nephews, Camden Wood, Wyatt and Gwen Shanklin.
Leon was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tina M. Procknow, mother of his son, Shirley A. Procknow, his parents, Alice G. and Clayton W. Procknow, and his brother, Lester A. Procknow.
