Obituary

Leonard W. Pulsfus, age 89, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Maplewood Nursing Home. He was born in Poynette on April 23, 1919, the son of William and Sophie (Falk) Pulsfus. He married his beloved Hildegard Auchtung on February 6, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, while preparing to fight in World War II. Leonard "rejoiced in the wife of his youth" throughout his lifetime, and they enjoyed 65 years of happiness and devotion together. He took great pride in his children, Sharon (James) Buzzell of Breckinridge, CO, Dwight (Joy) of Sauk City, Sandra (James) Guthrie of Glencoe, IL, and Daryl (Susan) of rural Prairie du Sac; and his grandchildren, Jamie (deceased), Stephanie, David, Madeline, Jacque, Jasmine, Darrin, Luke and Sam. He was respected for his hard work as a farmer, bulk distributor for Standard Oil, postal worker, and school bus driver. He proudly served his country as a tank driver in the 7th Armored Division, including exemplary service at the Battle of the Bulge and beyond. Leonard truly enjoyed the simple pleasures of each day. His pastimes were traveling, lawn and garden care, fishing, hunting, and the activities of his children and grandchildren. Gathering together with his family for a meal or a holiday was his greatest pleasure. Leonard was a member of Sauk Prairie Evangelical Free Church, a charter member of the Sauk Prairie Optimist Club since 1961, Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694, and a former Prairie du Sac board member. He trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and showed his beliefs quietly through actions more than words. His life was characterized by faith, humility, strength, friendliness and generosity. Leonard was respected and appreciated by all who knew him, and his smile and hugs are fondly remembered. His wife and family will continue to love and honor him always. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents William and Sophie; brothers, Rodney, Clarence and Willis; sister, Adeline; and grandson, Jamie. He is survived by brothers Herbert (Dorothy) and Henry; and sisters Alice, Esther (Bernard), and Madeline; sisters-in-law, Marion Pulsfus and Genevieve Pulsfus; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at SAUK PRAIRIE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 1375 Lincoln Ave., Prairie du Sac, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2008, with Pastors Timothy Pietrogallo and Dwight Pulsfus officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694. A visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008.

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:25-26.
