Obituary

Leopold "Leo" Froese, age 78, of Prairie du Sac passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025.  He was born in Austria on Jan. 20, 1947 to the late Karl and Josephine (Huber) Froese.  He immigrated to the United States with his parents in Dec. 1951 settling in the Sauk Prairie area.  Leo attended the Sauk Prairie Schools graduating in 1965.  Shortly after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego and served upon the U.S.S. Valley Forge.

Upon his return from the service, he was setup on a blind date with Karen S. Meyer; they married in Baraboo on April 22, 1972.  Together they made their home in rural Prairie du Sac in 1974.  Leo worked for over 40 years, starting in high school as a mechanic for Consumers Cooperative until he retired.  Using his mechanical talents, he continued to work on family and friends' cars and built himself a beautiful bright red 1936 Chevy pickup which was his pride and joy.  He and Karen enjoyed the outdoors together, fly in fishing trips to Canada and spring and fall fishing trips up north for many years.  Leo enjoyed wood working and made outdoor lawn furniture and decorations.  He also enjoyed working in his lawn, tending to his flowers and gardens.  Leo was a member of the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his brothers, Henry (Judy) Froese and Rollie (Sheila) Froese and his sister, Debby (John Kerr) Mahoney; sister in-law, Pat (Dan) Church and brother in-law, Bill (Julie) Meyer; he is further survived by many nieces, nephews' other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in-law, Thomas A. Mahoney; his in laws, Henry and Ann Meyer Sr., and a nephew, Rob Church.

A funeral service for Leo will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City.  A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service.  Military Honors will be accorded by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694.  Interment will be held in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo.

Leo loved his animals; so, in honor of Leo's love of animals his family requests you donate memorials to any animal rescue, animal shelter, or humane society of your choice.

Leo's family would like to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to the St. Clare, Baraboo Hospital Radiation and Oncology healthcare professionals for their care and treatments.
