Obituary

Lester Herbert Floeter, (age 88) of Prairie du Sac, WI passed away on Jan 3, 2017. Les was born on Jan 15, 1928, to Albert A. and Anne E. (Kohnke) Floeter in Westfield, WI. He attended Westfield schools, graduating from Westfield High School in 1947. In 1952, he was trained and served in the US Army as a trainer at Fort Knox, Kentucky, for two years.

Beginning in 1955 Les would call Madison his home for the next 55 years. After attending the University of Wisconsin, Madison for two years, in 1957 Les applied for a job at US Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, WI. He was hired for the job which led to a thirty-three year career at FPL in wood engineering. He also served as treasurer of the FPL Credit Union, helping people with loans, delivering better than average interest rate returns, and counseling members in debt.

Les was a quiet man of great honesty and integrity, giving a helping hand wherever he saw a need. As a volunteer Les served in many capacities at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. He ushered for forty years, serving a head usher in 1978-9, filling in for others countless times. He served on the church council, the stewardship and building and grounds committees. He assisted the counseling pastor with grief counseling sessions, even took charge of the chicken barbecue at the church picnic at Bethel Horizons, and cooked a casserole monthly for twenty years for community meal. For forty years he attended a early morning book study at church were the men of the church read and discussed current thought provoking books. Over the years Les also volunteered with the American Red Cross, and felt really good about contributing 22 gallons of his blood to the cause. During his years at the lab Les enjoyed participating in the bowling and golf teams with his co-workers.

On June 6, 1970 he married Janet Sperstad at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison, WI. They enjoyed their Bethel family with the numerous opportunities to learn, participate, and serve. Through the years Les enjoyed being with family, taking pictures, eating out, participating in education opportunities, and gathering family genealogy information. As a family Les, Jan and Kristin traveled to many places in the United States, and together Les and Jan took three pilgrimages with Bethel to Eastern Europe, Israel, and Greece. In addition they traveled to Norway, Ireland, Scotland, Canada and several European countries.

In 2010 Les and Jan moved to Prairie du Sac, WI to be closer to family. During the last years of Les life he quietly struggled with Parkinsonism with Lewy Bodies Dementia.

Les is survived by his wife, Janet - Prairie du Sac, daughter Kristin (Ryan) King - Prairie du Sac, grandsons, Tyler, Kyle, Andrew, and Jason King and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Anna Floeter, brothers, Arnold Floeter and Marvin Floeter, and sister Sadie (Floeter) La Rock.

The family would like to give their sincere thank you to Erwin from Bright Star for spending Tuesdays with Les for the last two years.
