Lester LaVerne Schulenburg, age 89, of Sauk City, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City.
Lester was born on June 20, 1922, the son of William and Alma (Scheele) Schulenburg. He was united in marriage to Thresa M. Handel on November 26, 1947 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Cross Plains. They moved from Cross Plains to Sauk City and then settled on a farm in rural Spring Green, where they farmed until retirement in 1986. Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Thresa of Sauk City; three children, Lyle of Spring Green, Virgil (Debra) of Prairie du Sac, and Terry (Joanne) of Prairie du Sac; grandchildren, James (Ashley), Andrew, Daniel, Pamela, and Rebecca, all of Prairie du Sac; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He is also survived by a sister, Velma Hohn of Madison. Lester was preceded in death by an infant son, Roger in 1960; his parents; and two brothers, Hubart and Vincent.
A funeral service will be on Monday, July 18, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, with Pastor Sally Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. Visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, on Sunday, July 17, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Oak Street, Prairie du Sac WI 53578.
