Obituary

Lois Booth Schlough, age 91, died on Thursday, April 5, 2012. She was born June 12, 1920 at the family farm in the Town of Vermont, Dane County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charlie and Rosa Gratz Booth. Lois married Russell Schlough on June 17, 1937. They were blessed with two children and five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.


She is survived by her son, Jury Schlough (Betty) of Mazomanie and daughter, Patrine Schlough Bottomley (Robert) of Janesville; grandsons, Paul D. Schlough (Kitty) of Stoughton, Neil Schlough of Mazomanie and John Bottomley of Amherst, Massachusetts; and granddaughters, Sara Schlough Medina (Basilio) of Carpentersville, Illinois and Rhonda Bottomley Heise (David) of Madison. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Russell in April of 1998; her parents; her brother, Rex Booth; and sisters, Marion Kleinsmith and Evelyn Armstrong.


Lois was a member of the Mazomanie United Methodist Church and their Candlelight Women's Circle. Lois will be remembered for the many years she was auctioneer at the Candlelight annual auction. One of her favorite past-times was to attend an auction and through the years she collected many beautiful antiques and memories. Lois and her husband Russell shared a great joy in their large garden each year. Lois loved flowers and always had a lovely flower garden and shared many beautiful bouquets with family and friends. She especially loved gladiolas and zinnias. She was an active member of the Mazomanie Garden Club.


Lois worked for twenty-eight years at the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Upon her retirement she and Russell volunteered with the Local Food Pantry and Lois spent many hours working with RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) as the local chairperson for the group of volunteers as they made quilts, lap robes, teddy bears, etc. for the battered women's shelter, medical facilities and others. Lois provided the local doctor's office with teddy bears. Lois received a Presidential Award for 4,000 hours of volunteer service. Besides her volunteer sewing she made many beautiful hand quilted quilts for her children and grandchildren. Many of the tied patchwork quilts she made are enjoyed by nieces, nephews and friends.



Lois resided at Ingleside in Mount Horeb for the past seven years. The family would like to thank the Ingleside staff and the Mount Horeb UW Health staff for their excellent care of Lois. A Memorial Service will be held at MIDLAND UNITED METHODIST CHURCH at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012. Friends may call at the church after 10:00 a.m.
