Louie Cecil Handel, age 87, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the William S. Middleton V.A. Hospital in Madison. He was born July 26, 1927 in Vermont Township to the late Richard and Ruby (Bester) Handel. He was united in marriage to Mary Helen Smith on September 15, 1945 at Middleton Lutheran Church. Louie proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. He enjoyed working on anything that was mechanical, blacksmithing, and wood working. Louie worked as an auto mechanic his whole life, working for several shops until he started his own in 1957, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Midland United Methodist Church, VFW and Mazomanie American Legion Greening-Buelow Post 437.
Louie is survived by his 3 sons, Richard (Patty Wallace), William, and David (Karen); son in-law, Jeff (Penny) Eveland; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; 4 siblings, Thresa Schulenburg, Harold, Phillip, and John Handel; he is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen on September 7, 2011; daughter, Geraldine Eveland; daughter in-law, Karen Handel; 4 brothers, Arthur, Paul, Virgil and Donald; and 2 sisters, Rose and Hazel.
Louie's family would like to thank Dr. Janelle Hupp and the Wis. Heights Clinic, and the V.A. Hospital for their wonderful care of Louie.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Midland United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, Hwy 14 West Mazomanie, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Black Earth.
