Obituary

Louis J. Breunig, age 72, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at UW Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 24, 1937 in Roxbury. Louis was the third of eight children born to Germain and Gertrude (Weynand) Breunig. He attended St. Norbert's Catholic School and graduated from Sauk City High School in 1957. Louis was united in marriage to his best friend and greatest love Jeannette Weber on July 25, 1961 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City. He and Jeannette raised two sons and were blessed with four grandchildren that were his pride and joy. He enjoyed every opportunity to watch them in their activities. Louis was a man of strong faith and will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He and Jeannette began their farming life together at the farm on Hwy V in 1961 initially renting and after a few years purchased the farm. Over the years they produced a successful line of Jenny Lou genetics in their Registered Holstein cows. He was respected by fellow farmers across the state. In 1998, Louis and Jeannette expanded their farming operation with their son Mitch to form Mystic Valley Dairy. The last 3 years Louis was blessed to be working with both of his sons at home on the farm. He received many awards over the years for his cows including the Dane County Distinguished Holstein Breeders Award in 2006. Louis would spend countless hours walking his fields to insure a bountiful harvest. Louis had many hobbies including bowling, shooting pool, double deck euchre, sheepshead and he enjoyed being outdoors deer hunting and riding his horses. He has made many wonderful friends from the numerous pool leagues and card parties over the years. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Badgers (basketball and football), Brewers and Packers on TV. Louis was a devoted member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, Wisconsin Walking Horse Association, and Dane County Holstein Association. He served on the Consumers Coop Board and DHIA Board of Directors. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jeannette Breunig; his sons, Marty (Joleen) Breunig and their children Kayla and Kyle, and Mitch (Jacquie) Breunig and their children Allison and Lauren. Louis was also looking forward to his newest grandchild due in October; two sisters, Ethel (Ralph) Kippley and Donna Ferguson; four brothers, Bernard (Pat) Breunig, Ted (special friend Pam Schultz) Breunig, David (LaLonnie) Breunig and Dennis (Jeanne) Breunig; sister-in-law, Linda Breunig; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Geroge; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Breunig; brother-in-law, Ron Ferguson; and two nephews, Douglas Breunig and David Kippley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. NORBERT'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 8944 County Road Y, Sauk City, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 with Fr. Miguel Galvez officiating.
