Louis S. Raymer passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2016 at Maplewood in Sauk City, WI. He is now forever fishing on the Brule River. Louis was born on July 19, 1929 in St. Paul, MN.
He grew up in Duluth, MN, where he met the love of his life, Frances Smith. They were married on Dec. 20th, 1948. He began his art career in 1949. Louis studied with other famous artists such as Don Kingman, Robert Wood and Fletcher Martin. Louis moved to Mpls. in 1957 where he worked for Honeywell. Most of his years were spent in commercial illustrating, but he started some freelance art in 1958. He has done national and local ads for many clients including General Mills, Federal Cartridge, 3M, Pillsbury, Paramount pictures and more. In 1967 Louis and his family moved to Yellow Lake in Webster, WI. There he began to do more wildlife painting and spent many hours in blinds at Crex Meadows photographing birds and animals. He enjoyed hunting in Canada, fishing with his son Jerry and grandsons Brett and Max, photography, and bicycling with his wife Fran on the Munger Trail. They loved to travel, their favorite place was Coronado Island, CA. Louis played drums for many years and played in several bands such as the Execs (big band) in Mpls., Green Stone Ridge in Webster (country), at Nye's in Mpls., and several more.
Louis will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Fran (Smith); son Steven (Jeanne), daughter, Rindy(Robert) Patton, son Fletcher (Margaret), and son Jerry., grandchildren, Brett Karns, Heather Goode, Elizabeth Raymer, Gretchen Raymer, Max Raymer ,Joseph Raymer and many great grand children and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 5pm to 7pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City, Wi. A Celebration of Life will be held at Elsie's, 729 Marshall Street NE in Mpls . on November 18th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Maplewood for their care and compassion over the last few months.
