Lucile E. Rettenmund (nee Rasmussen), age 95, passed away Feb. 10, 2018. Lucille was born Nov. 19, 1922 in Mazomanie to the late Harry and Elsie (Showers) Rasmussen.
She graduated Mazomanie High School; class of 1940. Lucile was united in marriage to Arthur Rettenmund from Black Earth on Feb. 14, 1942; he preceded her in death on June 26, 2002. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 53 years, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW since 1963, and Vermont Lutheran Church.
She formerly worked at the Pines Restaurant in Middleton, and later she and her husband owned and operated Art and Ceil's Tavern in Mazomanie for over fourteen years. Lucile later worked as a teller at the First Wisconsin Bank for fourteen years.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Rhodes; and her son, Terrance "The Governor" Rettenmund; grandchildren, Kristine (Joe) Buscke, Terry Stehr, Bobbie Jo Rettenmund (Britton Downing), Michelle (Toby) Berg, Tera and Scott Brunner; great grandchildren, Cole Arthur Downing, Dashell Downing, Sera Brunner and Shealyn Brunner, Sam Brunner; her brother, Richard Rasmussen; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband Arthur, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rasmussen, a sister, Carol Rose.
A memorial service will be held for Lucile at 11:00 am on Mar. 17, 2018 at Vermont Lutheran Church, 9886 Vermont Church Rd., Black Earth. Interment will be held at the church cemetery at a later date.
Lucile's family would like to thank a special niece Carla Maier and longtime family friend, Bernie Harrop who was like a second son, for their visits, Lucile appreciated them.
