Obituary

Lyle W. "Bud" Kahl, age 89, passed away at his home, on Sunday, June 28, 2009, following a lengthy battle with cancer with his family by his side. He was born in Black Earth on January 25, 1920, the son of the late William and Clara (Schultz) Kahl. He was united in marriage to Eva Blankenheim on October 30, 1954. Bud was a graduate in electrical engineering from U.W. Madison in 1942. He also attended M.I.T. and Bowdoin College for additional training in electrical engineering. He then went to Annapolis Naval Academy where he was commissioned an ensign. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 aboard the U.S.S. Cushing during the Philippine liberation, the Asiatic-Pacific area campaign, Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
Bud was a partner in the highway construction company of Rein, Schultz and Dahl, retiring in 1981. He was past president of the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Assn., chairman of their legislative commission, and also past president of the Wisconsin Asphalt Pavers Association. He was a member of Zor Shriners since 1954. The couple lived in Madison during most of the working years and moved to their Lake Wisconsin home in 1977. He is survived by his wife, Eva; three children, Patricia Kahl of Lodi, Joyce (Gary) Zeasman of Madison, and William (Karren) Kahl of Middleton; four grandchildren, Joshua and Whitney Kahl, and Nicole and Michelle Zeasman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ione Blankenheim, and a brother, Calvin Kahl. A funeral service will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 2 with Fr. Roger Taylor officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 1 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM and on Thursday one hour prior to service. Memorials are preferred for Shriners Hospitals for Children or the charity of your choice.
