Obituary

Margaret M Breunig, 86, of Sauk City, died peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born in Roxbury on July 21, 1937, the daughter of the late Edmund and Hilda (Eckstein) Speth. Margaret grew up in the Roxbury area and graduated from Sauk City High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Donald L Breunig on October 8, 1955. Margaret and Donald enjoyed many adventures traveling the world. They shared their passion for life with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret was just a few short months from becoming a great, great-grandmother.

In addition to travel, Margaret loved the slot machines, making a casino stop as recently as February of this year. She was an avid card player as well. There wasn't a sheepshead or euchre game she would miss. If you weren't Margaret's partner, you knew odds were against you. She was the luckiest card player and gambler you could meet. Margaret was a skilled crocheter, making blankets for each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the last few years.  She already made blankets for the next generation as new babies arrive. Margaret was a proud American Red Cross blood donor having donated over 44 gallons over the course of her life.

Margaret is survived by her faithful canine companion Nikko, her children, Kendall (Diane) of Milwaukee, Tim (Sheryl) and Terry (Laura) of Roxbury and Vicki Breunig of Sauk City and Sumalee (Sompong) Asa of Phoenix, AZ. She is further survived by her grandchildren Jill (Marcus), Lisa, April (Jason), Jeremy (Samantha), Nicole (Patrick), Dallas, Elise (Murray), Ayoub, Sofia, AJ and Nick and great-grandchildren Lily (Angel), Lexie, Ryan, Jaxon and Alana.  She is also survived by sisters-in-law Ethel (Harold) Opitz, Audrey Speth, and Darlene (Jack) Kleist and brothers-in-law Ralph (Joanie) Breunig and Kenny Breunig.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, son, Tom, brothers Arnold and Michael Speth, sisters-in-law Martha Breunig, Myrtle (Len) Power, Ruth (Paul) Pulvermacher and Cathy Breunig as well as her parents and in-laws.

Visitation will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St, Sauk City, WI from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2024, followed by a celebration of her life on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Dorf Haus in Roxbury. Sharing of memories will begin at 11:00 am with a lunch to follow.

The family would like to thank Kevin Klingenmeyer of Agrace Hospice Care.
