Obituary

Margaret R. Wittwer, age 83, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Hospice House in Baraboo. She was born in East Prussia, Germany on July 11, 1927, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Niemann. As a young girl, Margaret enjoyed working with her Dad on the family farm and riding the horses they raised. She was never worried about getting her hands dirty and was a hard worker. She met the love of her life, Clifford Wittwer, about 1945, while he was stationed in the U.S. Army in Germany and she was working as a secretary for the U.S. Government. Margaret came to the United States and she and Clifford were united in marriage on December 29, 1952 at the First United Church of Christ, Sauk City. She and Clifford farmed their entire married lives on the home farm in West Point Township. Clifford preceded her in death on July 13, 2005. Margaret was a member of First United Church of Christ, the Women's Guild and Marie Circle. She volunteered at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie for twenty-five years, entertaining the residents with sing-alongs, telling stories of the resident's lives growing up, and at Christmas with German carols. She also volunteered for many years at voting time at the West Point town hall. Margaret always thought of others and had a kind word to say or a note to send. She will be missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her son, James Wittwer; and many family and friends in the United States, Switzerland, and Germany. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Erika Schuster; and a brother, Manfred Niemann.

Funeral services will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Sauk City, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial will be in Garden Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
