Marian (Mary Ann) Martha Rosar, age 97 of Prairie du Sac and Blackhawk passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City. Mrs. Rosar was born near Witwen in Troy Township on May 20, 1911, to the late Mr. and Mrs. George L. Clara (Hasheider) Schneller. On Oct. 14, 1982, she was united in marriage to Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rosar of Austin, Texas where they made their home until they moved back to Wisconsin in 1993 and purchased a home in Prairie du Sac. Mrs. Rosar attended the Witwen School and the Prairie du Sac High School. She received her bachelor's degree at North Central College in Illinois and her master's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mrs. Rosar taught elementary schools in Sauk County, and high school in Niagra and Lake Mills. She served as teacher consultant in reading in Kenosha. She retired in 1971 after teaching for 38 years. Mary loved to travel and took many tours of Europe, Alaska and other United States with her husband and sisters. Mrs. Rosar was a lifetime member of Black Hawk United Methodist Church and associate member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Kappa Delta Gamma. She was a lifetime member of the College Presidents Club at North Central College with membership in the Tower Society there. She was a longtime member of the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital Association, the Friends of the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and Clinics as well as the Foundation. Mrs. Rosar believed in education and supported many foundations and institutes of learning. Mrs. Rosar was best known as Mary to her family and friends. Mary moved to the Pines in Prairie du Sac in 2006. She moved to Maplewood in December 2008. She is survived by two nephews, Charles (Peggy) Rosar and George Rosar; and several cousins and close friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Cecelia Mueller and Adlynn Balfanz; and three brothers-in-law, Karl Mueller, Victor Balfanz and George Rosar; a niece, Wilma Rosar; and her husband's brother, George Rosar. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at BLACKHAWK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with Pastor Kendall Schlittler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to the church.
