Mark James Cymbalak, age 64, of Black Earth and formerly of Mazomanie, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 21, 2026. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at BeeHive Homes in Mt. Horeb.
Mark was born on September 21, 1961, in Bennington, Vermont, to James and Marilyn (Bentley) Cymbalak. At the age of twelve, Mark accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and, shortly thereafter, knew he wanted to dedicate his life to serving the Lord as a pastor. He graduated from Flowing Wells High School in Tucson, Arizona, with the Class of 1979. He later attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he earned his pastoral degree in 1986 and met his future wife, Julie.
Mark and Julie were united in marriage on August 19, 1988, at Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, and began their life together in Verona, Wisconsin. Together, they attended Black Earth Congregational Church, where Mark became a part-time pastor in 1992. Mark became the full-time pastor in 2006 after the congregation opened its new worship facility under the new name Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship in Mazomanie. Throughout his years of ministry, Mark faithfully preached God's Word and continually pointed others to the saving grace and hope found in Jesus Christ. Pastor Mark retired in 2020, following his diagnosis and the health challenges he faced.
Mark is survived by his wife, Julie; his father, James Cymbalak; his children, Lindsey (Dheeraj) Charles and their twin sons, Jayden and Eli; Conlan (Sarah) Cymbalak and their daughter, Evelynn; Braydan (Hannah) Cymbalak; and McKindsey Cymbalak. He is further survived by his siblings, Lisa (Ray) Utter, Peter Cymbalak, and Eric (Kara) Cymbalak; many nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family members who remained closely connected throughout the years and whose love, encouragement, and faithful presence meant so much to Mark and his family especially in his last few weeks.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn.
A visitation for Mark will be held on Friday, June 26, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship, 10416 Curtiss Street, Mazomanie. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, Mark will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Black Earth. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the internment at Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship.
Mark’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many people who came alongside Mark and his family, ministering to them, supporting them, and praying for them throughout Mark’s cancer journey. They would especially like to recognize Dr. Zachary Morris, Dr. Mustafa Basree, and the other healthcare professionals at the UW Health Carbone Cancer Center for their compassionate care and dedication to Mark for many years. The family is also deeply grateful to the staff of Agrace Hospice and BeeHive Homes of Mount Horeb for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Mark in the final days and hours of his life.
The family would also like to extend their sincere appreciation to their Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship church family for the love, prayers, encouragement, and faithful support they have shown to Mark and his family throughout the years. A special thank you is extended to Pastor Ron Smith, whose friendship, love, and faithful ministry meant so much to Mark. After years of serving as a pastor himself, Mark was deeply grateful to have Pastor Ron come alongside him and become his pastor when he needed one most. Ron's encouragement, counsel, and presence were a great comfort to Mark and his family, and they are especially thankful that he was by Mark’s side during his final hours.
Memorials in Mark’s honor may be made to Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship or Agrace.
