Martha "Smiley" Bruckert, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at her home in the Town of Sumpter. She born in Honey Creek on August 12, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Elsa (Malone) Gieck Sr. She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1949. Martha was united in marriage to Richard C. Bruckert on March 26, 1955. Martha kept busy raising their four girls. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, baking and canning, fishing, traveling and being involved in Special Olympics. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, whom she treasured very much. She was a Christian woman who raised her family with a strong belief in the Lord. Martha was a member of the Honey Creek Rod & Gun Club, and a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Leland.


She is survived by her husband, Richard; four daughters, Linda Lee of North Freedom, Sandra (Paul) Barebo of Clayton, WI, Judy (Dwayne Linhart) Bruckert of Hillsboro, and Brenda Bruckert of North Freedom; six granddaughters, Keesha (Ben) Olds, Cassie (Durlin Jensen) Lee, Savannah (Josh) Raffesburger, September (Dane Soderberg) Barebo, Tasha (Jason) Gonzogawski and Crystal ("Monk" Jensen) Bruckert; 11 great-grandchildren; six siblings, George Gieck of Maplewood, Augusta Gieck of North Freedom, Lavern Gieck of Plain, Fred Gieck of North Freedom, Russell Gieck of North Freedom and Irene Hooker of North Freedom; cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; brother, Clarence Gieck; and great-granddaughter, Finnley Harper Olds.


A Funeral Service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
