IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martin "Marty"
G. Unger
October 7, 1954 – January 30, 2024
Martin G Unger, 69, passed away at Maplewood Nursing Home, Sauk City, on January 30, 2024. Marty was born October 7,1954 to Dorothy Wankerl Unger and Robert Unger. He graduated from Sauk Prairie High School, class of 1972. He was united in marriage to Barbara Maenner Unger on April 25, 1987.
Marty's true loves were his children, grandchildren and love of drag racing. He worked approximately 35 years at Badger Engine Rebuilder's in Madison. When he wasn't at work, he was probably in the shop working on someone else's motor or his race car. He spent as many weekends as he could in the summer drag racing; Great Lakes Speedway, Byron Speedway and Tri State Raceway. He was a charter member of the Smokin' 188 Car Club in the 70's. He was so proud of his children and supported all their activities.
Marty is survived by his wife, Barb, children, Laura (Tyler) Voss, Alex (Victoria Harrison) Unger, three grandchildren Dalton, Riley and Tate Voss. Siblings Philip Unger, Bill (Linda) Unger, Bob Unger, Gene (Sandy) Unger. His in-laws, Tom (Cheryl) Maenner, Mike (Inese) Maenner, Jim (Shirley) Maenner, Chuck (Anna) Maenner and Sue (Greg Collins) Maenner. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mom Dorothy Wankerl Unger Anderson and sister, June Unger Lemm.
We'd like to thank Kevin Klingenmeyer from Agrace Hospice for his years of care for Marty. In addition, we want to thank Maplewood and their staff for the wonderful care they gave Marty.
A celebration of life for Marty will be held on Thursday, February 8,2024 from 4:30-7:00 at The Dorf Haus, 8931 County Hwy Y, Roxbury, WI. Please come and share memories and laughs, that's what Marty wanted. There will be brief prayer service at 5:00.
