IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin R.
Frey
December 16, 1946 – December 5, 2025
Marvin R. Frey, age 78, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, at UW Hospital, following a short battle with leukemia. He was born in Roxbury on December 16, 1946, to Vincent and Martha (Kuehn) Frey. He met the love of his life, Carol I. Ballweg, in 1967, and they were married on February 3, 1968. They were married for 42 years before she passed away on October 10, 2010. He was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church (where he also attended grade school) and the Knights of Columbus.
Marvin was a farmer who raised hogs and beef for many years. He worked for Lodi Canning Company for 30 years as a mechanic. He and his son, Mark, were known for "Frey's Allis Tractors and Equipment" and often wore clothes with their logo. He was an active member of the Badger Steam and Gas Club, the Good Old Boys and Their Toys Club, and the Wisconsin Mid-State Antique Tractor Club. Marvin enjoyed traveling to various tractor shows and toy shows with Mark and his grandsons, Ethan, Devon, and Colin.
Marvin could fix just about anything, often helping family and friends. People often said that if Marvin couldn't fix it, then it couldn't be fixed! He also enjoyed working on his own Allis-Chalmers tractor collection.
Survivors include his four children: Tammy (Brian) Markley, Tony (Dana) Frey, Marla (John Quam) Frey, and Mark (Andrea) Frey; his grandchildren: Laura (Gavin) Halverson, Ethan (Geneva Crownover), and Addison Markley, Colin Quam, and Devon and Taylor Frey; siblings: Nancy (Dave) Schoepp, Alfred (Alberta) Frey, Roger Frey, Richard (Kris) Frey, Mary Ann (Gary) Wipperfurth, Joan (Norman) Campbell, Diane (Gerald) Endres, sister-in-law's, Helen Frey and Cheryl Frey, and many nieces, nephews and friends, and his special friend, Darlene Kirch.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; parents Vincent and Martha Frey; brothers LaVerne, Art, and John Frey; and sister-in-law's, Pam (DeNoble) Frey and Mary Ellen (Meinholz) Frey.
A private service for Marvin's family will be held on Thursday, December 11, with Fr. James Kotch officiating. Interment will be held at St. Norbert's Cemetery. A Celebration of Marvin's Life will be held in the spring when his tractors can come out, and nobody will be cold, because that is one thing Marvin never wanted to be.
Marvin's family would like to thank Darlene Kirch, Mary Ann and Gary Wipperfurth, Wendy Meinholz, and Roger Frey for everything they did to help Marvin; Dr. Luke Zurbriggen and his nurse, Eli, of UW Carbone Cancer Center; the nursing staff at the UW Carbone Cancer Center since Thanksgiving, and the staff at Maplewood Memory Care for helping Marvin over the last couple of months. Thank you to everyone else who helped the family during this time. Your love and support are greatly appreciated.
