Obituary

Marvin Lee Vanover, age 80, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo surrounded by his family. He was born in Muncie Indiana, on February 7, 1934 to the late Melvin and Mary (Sloan) Vanover. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War in Korea, Guam and last at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City S.D.

He married Shirley A. Freeland on December 21, 1955 in Muncie, Indiana. Marvin worked at Caine Ashcraft Furniture in Madison until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed living on Lake Wisconsin and later moved to Cazenovia. Marvin could be found spending time outdoors, tending to his yard and garden, decorating for the season and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; children, Daniel (Jill) of Poynette, Melvin (Linda) of Prairie du Sac, James (Annette) of Token Creek, Connie (Michael Wipf) Vanover of Arp, TX., Laurie (Ken) MacLeish, Danville, VA., Steven (Trisa) of Prairie du Sac, Peggy (Jeff) Eith, Pleasanton, CA., Catherine (David) Jensen, Prairie du Sac; 14 grandchildren, Cory, Tony, Brittany and Sarah Vanover, Maggie, Emily and Patrick MacLeish, Trevor and Alexa Judd, Samantha and Kyle Eith, Brady, Brandon and Brooke Jensen; 2 great-grandsons, Dylan Vanover and Logan Jensen; a very special dog, Molly; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Vanover and a sister Dorothy "Boots" Life.

A memorial service with Military Rites, will be held at the Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City, WI at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2014. A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the time of service.
