Marvin Raymond West, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. He was born February 4, 1931 in Appleton, WI to the late Lawrence and Cecilia (Quella) West.
Marv joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served many different places including Viet Nam, Korea, Japan, Hawaii, Alaska and others before he retired in 1971. He was proud of his service in the Air Force and a member of the Spring Green American Legion and the Sauk Prairie Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post. He worked for U.W. Madison Housing from 1972 until 1993. Marv married Wanda Cook on April 7, 1969. He enjoyed traveling worldwide, watching sports, doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Wanda of Sauk City; a daughter, Pamela (Vince) Russo of Prairie du Sac, step-children, Douyg (Carole) Bentzler of Deerfield, Paulette (Mike) Smith of Deerfield, Kathy Moriarity of Madison, Dawn (Mike) Dollak of Fall River, Steve (Margo) Bentzler of Menomonee Falls, Sue Bentzler of Reedsburg, and Mark (Brenda) Bentzler of Viroqua; a daughter-in-law, Pat McCartney of Sun Prairie; 24 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don (Ruth) West and L. Allen (Sue) West; a sister, Mary Gleason; sister-in-law, Phyllis West; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by two step-sons, Jerry and Scott Bentzler; 2 brothers Wayne and Eugene West; and a brother in-law Jerry Gleason.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 28 at SAUK PRAIRIE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 1375 Lincoln Av., Prairie du Sac. Burial with military rites will follow at Cassel Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 27 at Hooverson Funeral Home and at the church on Friday one hour prior to service.
