Mary Helen Kennedy, age 81, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Mazomanie on Monday, August 17, 2015. She was born in Columbus, WI to the late Merlin and Helen (Traut) Klecker. After High School she obtained a medical technician certificate and worked for Madison General Hospital. Mary was united in marriage to William A. Kennedy Sr. on May 4, 1957; he preceded her in death on March 22, 1993. Together they owned and operated Koltes and Kennedy Hardware in downtown Mazomanie for nearly 50 years; along with several other family businesses in Wisconsin Dells. She enjoyed being involved with many Mazomanie Community Events and Groups; Renovating and Reparatory "R&R", Mazomanie Star Lighting, Wild West Days, Railroading Reds- Red Hatters Club, chili supper, election polls, and playing Mrs. Claus. Her passion was the Mazomanie Historical Society, and she enjoyed dressing in her vintage and Victorian era dresses.
She is survived by her 2 sons; Bill Jr. (Gale) of Mazomanie, Tim (Liz) of Prairie du Sac; 6 grandchildren, William III (Kelly Peterson and son, Mickey) of Sauk City, Sawyer of Middleton, Collin and Galen both of Mazomanie, Patrick and Peter both of Prairie du Sac; a brother, Richard Klecker of Columbus; and special lifelong friend, Dave Schmitt; she is further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Klecker.
Mary was much beloved by her family and circle of friends. She loved taking care of others and she enjoyed her life and received much joy from her grandchildren and the many activities in the community. The Mazomanie Star will burn a little brighter this year.
A Celebration of Mary's life will be held on Sunday, Septemeber 27, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Turk Shelter at the Mazomanie Lions Park. Mary's family would like to encourage people to bring pictures and stories. A private interment was held at the Mazomanie Cemetery.
