Obituary

Mary Jo Pape, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. She was surrounded by love, with her children at her side. Mary Jo was born on March 19, 1938, in Sauk City, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Endres) Bongard. She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Pape, on October 9, 1958, in Sauk City. Mary Jo's life was filled with family and friends, hard work and great fun. A dedicated employee, she celebrated 30 years with the Bank of Prairie du Sac when she retired in June 2005. Mary Jo will be remembered as an avid bowler, a talented flower gardener and always a willing volunteer. She also enjoyed reading and decorating her home. Mary Jo was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by 5 children, Todd (Nancy) Pape, Wendy Pape, Sandra (Tom) Geier, Michael (Penny) Pape and Robert (Ericka) Pape; 4 grandchildren, Preston and Garrett Pape, Audrey Pape and Sam Geier, in whom she took great delight and by whom she was known as Grandma Jo or simply "JoJo". She will be dearly missed by surviving brothers, Charles (Virginia) Bongard and Lee (Carol) Bongard; sisters, Frances (Lyle) Thompson and Karen (Leon) Breunig; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Bongard and Lucille Bongard; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, former coworkers and customers, teammates, neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art in 1988; an infant son, Terry; 2 brothers, Victor and Eugene Bongard; a sister, Clarice (Bongard) Hug and a brother-in-law, Jack Hug. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Sauk City, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 with Father Jared Hood officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008 and also on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Mary Jo's children wish to thank the staff of Home Health United, the clergy of St. Aloysius Church, and the countless relatives, friends, and colleagues whose support throughout Mary Jo's illness allowed them to return to their mother the tender care she gave to them.
