Matie Frances Carpenter, age 76, of Arena passed away on June 2, 2010 at Greenway Manor in Spring Green following a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. Matie was born in Mazomanie, November 28, 1933 the daughter of Alvina (Hankel) and John Carpenter. Matie was a 1952 graduate from the Arena High School and was employed at the Mazo Egg Company of Mazomanie and Middleton until 1963 as well as at O'Bryan Brothers of Richland Center where she was a member of their Pioneer Club of employees until retiring in 1999. Matie was an avid "fisherman" and enjoyed many hours on the banks of the Wisconsin River and local creeks and streams, often accompanied by her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Arena Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club and served many years as the club's Sunshine Lady. She was also an active member and officer of the TOPS Club of Spring Green. She enjoyed traveling many times to the Western States of Colorado, Dakotas, and Wyoming.

Nieces and nephews, Earl and Evelyn Carpenter of Berlin, Kenneth Carpenter of Washington, Sally Carpenter (Troy Atkinson) of Middleton, Gary Porter of Arena, Ray (Kris) Porter of Arena, Tom (DeAnn) Porter of Arena, Evelyn (Albert) Harris of Aurora, CO., Anthony Lipinski Jr., of Englewood, Co., Michael (Bonnie) Lipinski of Pueblo, Co., Susan (Calvin) Sipes of Spring Green, Rose (David) Bills Colorado Springs, Co., Alvin Lipinski of Lone Rock, and step niece Marsha (Jason) Custer of Baraboo. 15 great nieces and nephews, 24 great-great nieces and nephews and one great, great, great nephew.
Matie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alvina Carpenter, two brothers, Francis and George Carpenter. A sister in-law Anna Carpenter, and brothers in-laws Anthony Lipinski and Bill Armstrong.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Mazomanie, Hwy 14 West, on Saturday, June 5, 2010 with Reverend Michael Lipinski of Pueblo Co; officiating. Burial will follow in the Arena Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 am until time of service.
