Obituary

Maureen Bridget Kirk, age 60, died after a long battle with ovarian cancer on Monday March 14, 2016. She was born in Macon, Missouri on April 2, 1955, the daughter of Barbara Orscheln and Joseph Scanlon.

She was a proud member of the Husker Nation, graduating from the University of Nebraska where she earned her undergraduate degree in 1978 and her Master's degree in 1980. Maureen and Franklin Kirk, wed in 1982 in Beatrice, Nebraska. Later that year, the young couple relocated to Prairie du Sac.

Here Maureen began her 36 year career, as a compassionate social worker, with Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.

There she also began her most important calling as mother to three children, Jared, Holly and Kevin. Maureen was an involved advocate of youth athletics and community events. Maureen never stopped sharing her vigorous passion for life with all those around her. She loved to travel, cook, downhill ski, and golf. She found friends everywhere and held them dearly.

Maureen was preceded in death, by her mother Barbara in 2000, and her father Joseph in 2009. Also, her Aunt Virgina Smith and Uncle Gary Wright predeceased her.

Surviving family include her two brothers, Patrick (Jacque) of Kansas and Michael of Florida; aunts, Judy Wright and Kathleen De Lorenzo (Frank) of Arkansas, Marcella Bazin (Joseph) of Kansas, and Bob Smith of Tennessee. Surviving family also include her nephews Michael (Meghan) and Matthew, and her niece Meghan.

A wake will be held at the fellowship hall of St. John's Lutheran Church at 100 Oak Street, 4-7 pm Thursday March 17th. Her funeral mass will be held at St. Aloysius 115 Madison, on Friday March 18th at 11 AM. Immediately following the service an Irish celebration of life will be held at Lake Wisconsin Country Club at N1076 Golf Rd., Prairie du Sac.
