Obituary

Maurice L. Maier, age 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Sauk City on Fri. May 6, 2016 with his loved ones at his side. He was born in Baraboo on June 15, 1954 to the late LaVerne J. and Betty J. (Anhalt) Maier.

Maury's childhood years were spent on the family farm in Portage with his eight siblings. In 1971 his family moved to Roxbury to be closer to the family business, but, Maury chose to stay with his grandparents, Adam and Elizabeth so he could graduate with his classmates. Maury married Rhonda Rolstad on July 11, 1987. He enjoyed family holidays and was in charge of getting the family photo organized, not an easy task with as many as 90 people. Maury always looked forward to Fathers Day and would be the first one to arrive at Devils Lake to reserve the family spot. He was a Carpenter in the Local Carpenters Union 314 of Madison; and worked side by side with his brothers, Mike and Mark. We would also be in trouble if we didn't mention his infamous hair that only a select few were allowed to touch. He enjoyed hunting, grilling out, spending time with family, and was a master pool player. He played in several leagues and hosted many tournaments.

Maury is survived by his wife, Rhonda; children, Ravin (Mike) Chatfield, Cole (fiancée Dawn), and Wyatt; grandchildren, Alicia, Chloe, Owen, Bryce, and Madeline. His siblings, Mitch (Sandy), Mark (Dianne), Renee (Dennis) Frey, Monte (Roxi), Roxann (Ron) Lenz, Rochell (Roberto) Colon, and Rebecca (Ted) Frey; mother in-law, Fay Rolstad; brother in-law, Scott Rolstad; sister in-law, Marcia Meise; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Maury was preceded in death by his daughter, Kori Jo; an infant sister, Mary; brother, Michael Maier; father in-law, Ronald "Mike" Rolstad; and sister in-law, Shelley Greimel.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am at St. Norbert's Catholic Church, Roxbury on Thur. May 12, 2016 with Fr. Gary Wankerl presiding. A visitation will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wed., May 11, 2016, and from 9:45 am until 10:45 am the morning of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Garden Bluff Cemetery.

Maury's family would like to thank the Agrace Hospice Team for their help and care during Maury's short journey with cancer.

As Maury would say, "this too shall pass."
