Obituary

A kind and warm hearted farmer's soul passed up to our heavenly father peacefully on Wednesday morning.  Melvin John Seiler, age 79, was the oldest of five children born to Albert and Elizabeth (Ruhland) Seiler on November 5, 1941 in Sauk City, WI.

Melvin married Lynette (Weiss) on May 11, 1963 at St Luke's Church, Plain, WI and started his lifetime career in farming as hired hand, renting a farm in Sauk City, then eventually purchasing his farm on Fuchs Road where he raised dairy/milking cows, hogs, beef and a family of 3 sons and 3 daughters.

Melvin's journey of farming led him to classes at the University of Wisconsin, Madison for 2 years in agriculture. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Young Farmers program .  Serving on the Consumer's Cooperative, Sauk City board of directors for many years.

He farmed his entire life, but lost the Fuch's Rd  barn in a fire in 1996 and the milking herd.  He wasn't ready to retire, so he continued to farm the land and raise young dairy animals for larger herds in the area. He continued to enjoy this slower paced farming and cutting wood while residing at their Prairie du Sac home until moving to a memory care home February of 2021.

He always made time for his children's interest in 4-H showing animals and attending sports events, especially wrestling. He enjoyed an active social life of bowling league, card club parties of sheepshead and euchre, White Lighting snowmobile club and adventures traveling around the country and enjoying cruise ship travels with friends, especially Las Vegas junket flights.

Melvin is survived by his wife Lyn, six children, Tim (Lucy), Tammy, Todd (Laurie), Tracy (Alvin), Tina (Jeff) and Travis.  He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  He is further survived by his sisters, Pat (Jim) Ziegler and Darlene Kirch. His brothers, Lavern and Steve (Pam).  He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth and his mother and father in law, Edmund and Caroline Weiss.

Visitation will be 9-11:15 am on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water Street, Sauk City, WI.  A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30am at St Aloysius Catholic Church, Sauk City. The mass will be lived streamed at https://youtu.be/R3tSIZl-91E . Burial will immediately follow service in the church cemetery for the immediate family.

Thank you to the supportive staff of Casa de Oakes, Reedsburg and Agrace Hospice Care in his final days.  Your comfort and dignified care will always be remembered.
