Obituary

Melvin A. Strang, 93, beloved husband, friend and father, passed away at the St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo. He was born Sept. 15, 1920 in Chicago. Mel married Phyllis Ludwig on July 7, 1951 in Chicago, moved to Niles, IL, and lived there until his retirement at age 62. He and Phyllis made a life for themselves at a home on Lake Wisconsin. He loved the peace and quiet that Merrimac offered. Mel served in World War II as a Marine in the Pacific. He was a legend in the paper business and quite the photographer, making many good friends along his many years of work.


He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter Barbara J. Haupers(Dr. Peter Jr.); a son, Mark; and two grandchildren, Dr. Mary Haupers(William Neurauter) and Peter Haupers, III.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sat., December 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Merrimac United Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Merrimac. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Merrimac United Methodist Church.
