Mercedes B. Daentl, age 94, died on Monday, November 16, 2009 at Maplewood Nursing Home of Sauk Prairie. She was born in the village of Dane on July 25, 1915 the daughter of the late Frank X. Koch and Elizabeth (Schneider) Koch. They moved to Waunakee where she grew up, attending St. John's School through the eighth grade. Her childhood there, in a family of seven siblings and a neighborhood of playmates, provided many happy memories that she recalled and recounted until her last days. Mercedes married Melvin A. Daentl in November 1933. Her career as an aide at Mendota Mental Health Institute began in 1953 and lasted until her retirement in 1977 when she moved to Mazomanie where she quickly made many friends and joined St. Johns Lutheran Church. She moved to the Pines of Prairie du Sac in December of 2000 and to Maplewood in March of 2005.
Mercedes is survived by her two children: Donovan (Carol) Daentl of Prairie du Chein and Emogene (Robert) Dodsworth of Mazomanie; ten grandchildren Ann Dodsworth, Sara (Ralph) Olguin, Aaron (Beth) Dodsworth, Jeremy Dodsworth, Scott (Lori) Daentl, Karla (Rich)Mulrooney, Brian Daentl, Lori (Leo Hoffman)Wachter, Lynn (Russ) Jones, Teri Blotz; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, James (Dorothy) Koch, and two sisters, Betty Laufenberg and Barbara (Harold) Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert and Eugene, and a sister, Delores Dohm.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11am at New Heights Lutheran Church in Mazomanie, 105 E. Hudson Street. Pastor Rob Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mazomanie Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church from 9:30am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to New Heights Lutheran Church of Mazomanie.
