Merle Calvin Hasheider, age 87, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 30, 2013. He was born November 10, 1925, the son of Herbert and Cora (Zick) Hasheider in the Town of Honey Creek. After graduating from Prairie du Sac High School in 1943, he worked on his family farm until he bought a farm of his own after marrying the love of his life, Lucy Fuchs. Merle and Lucy were joined in marriage on December 12, 1953 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Blackhawk. Merle held numerous leadership roles in local and county groups such as 4-H, Sauk County Rural Youth, and Sunday School Superintendent at his church. He was drafted into the Army in 1954 at the age of 28, and was released on honorable discharge after a barn fire on his farm. For several years, he farmed on his own, eventually taking on a second full time job as a Union Carpenter in Madison. His knowledge of the trade was passed on to his sons, and this was the foundation of Hasheider Roofing & Siding, Ltd. Merle worked in the Rocket Division at Badger Army Ammunition Plant, and started his own home building business, Skylar Homes. He has worked as an estimator for Hasheider Roofing & Siding, Ltd. for the past 22 years. Merle enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Lucy and many dear friends. He had a love of life and people, and particularly enjoyed wood carving, good music, was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, and most of all, loved time spent with family. Merle was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. His kind, honest and caring ways will be missed by all who knew him.
Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy, his parents, and brother, Howard Hasheider.
He is survived by his children, Ricky Hasheider (Cathy Gibson), Bradley Hasheider (Lisa), Kevin Hasheider (Stacy), Wesley Hasheider (Monica), and Sheila Hasheider, all of Sauk City / Prairie du Sac; grandchildren, Brian, Greg, Heather, Tyler, Cody, Daniele, Dakota, Kassie, Dylan and Sierra Hasheider; great-grandchildren, Joey and Chloe; sister-in-law, Shirley Hasheider; and many nieces and nephews.
