Merton R. Moely, age 89, died peacefully on Friday October 23, 2009 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born on December 28, 1919 in Sauk City the son of the late Walter and Anna (Riches) Moely. Merton attended Prairie du Sac High School, graduating in the class of 1937. He was united in marriage to Shirley Steuber on February 7, 1942. The Ferry Bluff Farm was their home and farm until 1964 when they moved to Sauk City where Merton was employed by McFarlane's Manufacturing until his retirement in 1981. During his retirement , Merton was employed part time by Kindschi's seed corn and also as a groundskeeper at the First united Church of Christ where he was a lifelong member.. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at their Lake Wisconsin Cottage, woodworking, playing cards, tending his lawn, and gathering and cooking maple syrup.

Sisters in law: Doris Steuber and Sharal Steuber, of Prairie du Sac,
Brother in law and sister in law Edsel and Caroline Steuber,
further survived by numerous nieces nephews and cousins .
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Maplewood for Merton's care while he was a resident. And also extend a special thank you to Pastor Bill Kapp for his attentiveness to Merton and his family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at the First United Church of Christ, Sauk City, with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial will be in the Sauk City Cemetery.A visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
