Michael "Mick" D. Mathews, age 74, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Prairie du Sac, WI on Jan. 18, 2022.  Mick was born Mar. 22, 1947 to the late Samuel W. and Roberta M. (Mikesell) Mathews.  He attended and graduated from Richmond High School in Richmond Ind., class of 1965.  Shortly after high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Mick went on to graduate from Indiana University with a degree in Physics.  He started his working career with Belden Wire and Cable and eventually made a move to Aurora, Ill. where he returned to school studying Computer Programming.  While in Aurora he worked for a credit card manufacturer before deciding to move to Prairie du Sac, WI in 2002.  Mick accepted a position with the University of Wisconsin, Madison doing programming work.  Mick was united in marriage to Rebecca Adams; she preceded him in death in 2008.  He enjoyed the outdoors and being physically active; he regularly attended the wellness center, kayaked, and golfed.  His passion was bicycling which he did several times a week and even from the comfort of his home.  From his love of bicycling, he gained many friendships through the groups he met.

Mick is survived by his brother, Samuel "Bill" (Lisa) Mathews of Homosassa, FL., 2 nieces, Dawn (Mark) VanWinkle and Brittany (Clarence) Scurlock; 2 nephews, Christopher and Bradley Mathews.  He is further survived by other relative and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Rebecca; he was preceded in death by a sister, Diane.

A Celebration of Mick's life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Vintage Brewery, 600 Water St., Sauk City.
