Obituary

Michael Lee Schoenemann, of Mazomanie, WI, passed away peacefully on September 22,2024, his 72nd birthday, after a year long struggle with lung cancer.  He was cared for by the loves of his life, Maureen, Meghan, Patrick, and Emily in his final weeks.

Michael graduated from Wisconsin Heights High School in 1970 and the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater  in 1977.  He married Maureen Lyons, of Marshfield, MA on June 12,1976.
Mike and Maureen moved to Iowa where they found teaching jobs and started their family.  They raised their children, Meghan, Patrick, and Emily in Rockford, IL.  Michael taught special education before beginning a career in the medical imaging field as a sales representative.

Michael was the most fun-loving, supportive, generously spirited father any kid could ever hope to have.  He delighted in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments large and small with equal enthusiasm.  He loved spending time with those he loved: camping, road tripping (a master of choosing the most novel candies a gas station offered), cooking out, building someone's deck, fixing a roof, and tending to his lawn and gardens.

He enjoyed listening to any Wisconsin game on the radio while putzing around his yard or in his garage as much as watching it at the stadium. Same went for music.  Michael had excellent taste in music and played it all weekend long; 70's rock was the soundtrack to our lives.

Later in his life, he loved being a grandfather to Gavin, 10 (Patrick Schoenemann)of Rockford, IL and Nora,8, Benjamin,6, and Miles,4, (Emily and John Langan) of Nashville, TN.  He loved sending the kids curiosities from Amazon and eventually mastering FaceTime.

Despite his illness, he wore a smile and enjoyed the company of anyone who gave a nod or a smile to whatever red Wisconsin Badger gear he was sporting. Truly, to know him was to love him.  His greatest gift was the unconditional love he gave his family.

Michael is survived by Maureen Schoenemann, Rockford, IL and his children, Meghan Schoenemann Nashville, TN; Patrick Schoenemann, Rockford, IL and Emily (John) Langan, Nashville, TN.

Mike is also survived by his siblings; Mark (Rebecca) Schoenemann, Marcia (Roger) Howard, Michelle Jahn, Marlene (Butch Padock) Schoenemann, Meribeth (Dan) O'Connell and Marlon (Anne) Schoenemann; he if further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded by his parents, Harold and Elaine (Linley) Schoenemann, and a brother in-law, Terance Jahn.

Michael's family would like to thank Moments Hospice of Madison, WI and MercyHealth at Home for their support and care of Michael.
