Mildred Marie Schattnik, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009. She was born on Aug. 21, 1914, in Chicago, IL to Richard and Anne (Hanft) Schattnik. After various years of schooling, during the great depression she started working for a Chicago company that embossed books and other printed media with the gold leafing technique. After that she worked for the remainder of her working life until retirement for the Teletype Corporation at 1400 W. Wrightwood in Chicago Illinois. Her duties were as a machine operator in the manufacture of machine and wire parts. She was very proud of her job and often stated that she did her best to never miss a day of work. She loved to travel and visited many parts of the world with her fellow employees on trips sponsored by her company. Nearing retirement, some close friends invited her to the state of Wisconsin and there she decided to spend the rest of her days in the town of Merrimac. She loved her family and friends dearly and gave what she could to many charities out of the goodness of her heart and a desire to help those in need. Survivors include her brother, Robert of Chicago, sister-in-law Regina (Robert) Schattnik; niece Mary Kay (Robert) Brown of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, nephews Daniel R. Schattnik (Celeste) of Chesterfield, Missouri and Richard T. Schattnik of Chicago, Illinois, grandnieces Emily McBride Brown and Kelsey Anne Schattnik, and an infinite number of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Roy. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Hooverson Funeral Home,Sauk City on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m.on Saturday, October17, 2009 , at St. Mary's Church in Merrimac, WI. A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held at the Farm Kitchen restaurant in Baraboo, Wisconsin after the funeral.
