Mildred Marie Steckelberg, age 95, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City. She was born at home in Troy Township, on August 16, 1916, to the late Walter and Anna (Riches) Moely.
She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1934 and later attended Nursing School at Madison General Hospital. Mildred started her nursing career with Dr. Gibbs Zauft in Prairie du Sac and later worked at the Prairie Clinic until her retirement. She married Frederick G. Steckelberg on December 20, 1958. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1992.
Mildred was an active member of the First United Church of Christ, Sauk City. She enjoyed being involved with the Sauk County Humane Society, Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, and the Red Cross Blood Drive. Mildred and Fred enjoyed many years of golfing at Lake Wisconsin Country Club, gardening, fishing, and Badger football and hockey.
She is survived by her son, Bill; a sister in-law, Shirley Moely; and a niece, Marcy (Steve) Thurwachter.
In addition to her husband, and parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her brother, Merton Moely.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at First United Church of Christ, Sauk City. Friends may call from 9:30am until the time of service. Interment will be held at the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital Foundation, First United Church of Christ, or the Sauk County Humane Society.
