Nancy Lou Cole lost her two-year battle with lung cancer on Saturday, December 20, 2014. While she had been failing the last few weeks, the end came very suddenly Saturday evening when she had a cardiac arrest at home.
Nancy was born August 3, 1935, the oldest daughter of Gus and Thelma Boll. She met the love of her life, Arthur David Cole in high school. She graduated from Prairie du Sac high school in 1953 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with dreams of becoming an elementary teacher. She married David on October 30, 1955 and had four children (Steve, Barb, Scott and Sue), eventually settling on the family farm in West Point Township, just outside of Prairie du Sac. They were married for 59 years.
She was a stay-at-home mom while the kids were young. Once they were in school, she started working part-time at Eileen's Flower Shop in Prairie du Sac (later Sandy's Floral). Nancy was a people person, enjoying time with co-workers and customers. She also loved working with flowers because they made people so happy. Her favorite flowers were daisies.
She worked as the West Point Treasurer for many years and was the bookkeeper for Dave's crop consultant business.
Nancy's priority was always her family. She loved family get-togethers and having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around. She also cherished her annual trips with Dave, enjoying the beauty of Lake Superior and the road less traveled in Northern Wisconsin. She enjoyed playing euchre and canasta, reading novels, and watching the native birds out her kitchen window.
She was a great home cook. Her cheesy potatoes and sweet corn casserole were legendary. She continued to bake desserts everyone loved through Thanksgiving of this year. From scotch-a-roos to apple squares, she often dropped off special treats for grandchildren's birthdays.
In 1990, her heart was broken when her oldest son, Arthur Steven, was killed in an automobile accident. One comfort in her passing is that she will finally be able to hug him again.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Dave; three children, Scott (Mary), Barb (John) Hernandez, and Sue; a daughter in-law Joan Cole; nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, Bob (Sarah) Boll; and in-laws, Phil (Nancy) Cole and Kathy (Vince) Statz, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her son, she was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Thelma Boll.
A funeral service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 251 Water St., Sauk City at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, Nancy's family requests memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
"Dust-to-dust here on earth, but Nancy's journey is just beginning. She will travel with the angels. Her spark will never die. I suspect when I'm lying out on the lawn on a future June evening, looking straight up towards the heavens, I'll see Nancy's spark' among the stars. All my love, until we meet again, my darling wife." – Dave
