Nancy L. Thompson

Heaven unexpectedly gained a very precious soul on Friday, May 29, 2026. Nancy (Nanc) L. Thompson, age 81, passed away at Sauk Prairie HealthCare. She was born in Reedsburg, on July 5,1944 to the late Eber and Edna (Voights) Rhinehart. Nancy attended and graduated from Baraboo High School. She was proud to be a “T-Bird”. We recently discovered she was a poet and wrote her own poetry composition book in her junior and senior year of high school. Nancy enjoyed many jobs throughout her younger years - including being a tour guide in the Wisconsin Dells, a telephone operator and restaurant worker.

She met the love of her life, Robert D. Thompson, on a blind date. Their first date was the movie Old Yeller at the Al Ringling Theater. It was love at first sight and the rest is history! They united in marriage on September 21, 1963, and they shared a love that was something to behold for 62 years. Nancy enjoyed many things including gardening, baking, sewing, bowling, snowmobiling, camping and mostly spending time with her family and friends. Nancy was a homemaker and mom for many years when all her children were born and being raised. When she ventured back out into the workforce, she worked as cashier at Pierce’s Supermarket in Baraboo and then later as a lawn furniture seamstress at Almet/Sunbeam. When Almet closed Nancy had the option to go to college. And that she did in her early 50’s. She accomplished getting her associate's degree in business. She was very proud of that at that age. She finished her career at Fiskars in Sauk City, as a top customer service representative.

Nancy’s love of baking always included an annual Thompson Christmas cookie bake-off. In which she hosted all her grandkids and kids. Of course, Dad was there to serve as the quality assurance “taster”. Nancy always shared a love of camping with her sweetie, Bob. They loved camping trips up to Briggsville, Potters Pond, Birchwood, Castlerock, Ashland, Bayfield and finally settled on a permanent site at Duck Creek Campground in Wyocena. There wasn’t a summer that they weren’t hosting their kids and grandkids. She loved summer and the 4th of July weekend, as it was always a celebration of her birthday and all her favorite things, surrounded by family. Nancy was a nurturing soul by nature but did venture on some fun trips to the Dakotas, the Florida Keys and the East Coast. One of her fond memories was meeting her idol, Johnny Cash, at the Westgate Mall in Madison. She shared her love of Charlie Pride with Bob, and they attended many shows at the Crystal Grand to see him. She loved the Price is Right Drew Carey era, Survivor and The Bachelor/Bachelorette. In her later years, Nancy and Bob were known to hunker down and indulge in Hallmark movies. We will miss her positivity, bright light, generosity, kindness and nurturing guidance most.

She is survived by her kids: Brett (Kathie) Thompson, Bobbi Lynn (Jeff) Dobratz, Teresa (Mike) Krysa and Eber (Kristy) Thompson. Grandkids: Spenser and Richard Dobratz, Clint and Trent (Maggie) Thompson, Dr. Samantha Krysa (Derek Campos) and Sabrina (Tommy) Cochran, Alison (Luke) Klosiewski, Mallory (Jacob) Roelke and Olivia (Kayden) Mathison. Great grandkids: Brayden, Adalynn, Reilynn, Linus, Gemma, Zelie and Giorgio. Her siblings: Kenny (Dawn), Steve (Karen), Judy (Marge) and Diane (Gulio). In-laws: Alice (Tom), Linda (Ron) Dan, Lorraine, Lavonne (Ricky) and Barb (John) and Carolyn. Many nieces and nephews and friends. Godchildren: Jeff, Kenda and Julie. Nancy was “second” mom to most but she especially loved being “second mom” to Brett Roznos, Pattie Ruda, Eugene Clement and Lynn Schuster.

Preceded in death by: The love of her life: Bob, Her parents: Eber and Edna, siblings: Minnie, Bonnie and Gene, in-laws: Donna, Dock and Iola, Gary and Linda, Tony, Neil, Gale and Tracie. Nancy’s family would like to express gratitude and thanks to the Sauk Prairie Healthcare team and the UW Medflight team for all their efforts, trying to save Mom. She came back “four” times for her “four”kids, but then Dad decided try “five” was time to bring her home.Even though a “golden heart” stopped beating way too soon, we take comfort that Dad was there to meet her and call her home. The “lovebirds” are reunited. Please be kind, generous and compassionate every day to each other. And if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say nothing at all. Words our mother lived by.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on June 11, 2026, at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City, WI. With visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service at Dorf Haus, 8931 Cty Hwy Y, in Roxbury. Immediate family will have a private graveside burial.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Nancy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org/donate) or Shelter from the Storm Animal Rescue (sftsrescue.org/donate). Nancy loved all creatures, great and small!
