Obituary
Nola J. (Lathrop) Peterson – age 87 of Arena and Madison, WI passed away 8/22/2016 at her home.
She was born on 8/06/1929, the daughter of William and Jennie (Bartow) Nicholson, in Bowman, ND.
Nola was employed by UW Madison for over 30 years as a secretary for Agriculture Engineering Department and later with the MSN-AG &LSC Genetics Department.
In her earlier years, Nola enjoyed boating and fishing with her family at their cabin on the Wisconsin River by Spring Green. Later she would go "Up North "camping in the bus.
After retirement Nola became a quilter. She enjoyed making squares for and with quilters from around the world. She made quilts for family and friends. She especially enjoyed making quilts for babies and children in area hospitals.
She attended Badger football games, watched and listened to Milwaukee Braves and Brewers and loved the Packers.
Nola married James Lathrop on April 30, 1949 who preceded her in death on December 24, 1973.
Eight children were born to this union: Raymond, Allan (Barb), James (Barbara)
Janet (Mark) Kendall, Donald, Gerald (Mary), Patrick and Peter (Lynette). Nola then married Kenneth Peterson on September 12, 1976. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1999.
And added his six children to her family: Kenneth (Ruth Ann) Duaine (Debra), Rick (Jody Gall) Linda Ruhland, Nancy Wilkinson and Randy Peterson (deceased).
Nola is survived by her combined 13 children, 35 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by 3 sisters: Lee Kriz, Elsie Perrett and Crystal Glass, 1 brother: Tom Nicholson. Two brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law Charles, John (Carol) Lathrop and Janet Beinborn. Along with many other relatives and friends.
She joins her parents, William and Jennie, her husband's Jim and Ken, a daughter- in-law Joann Lathrop and son Randy Peterson, sons-in-law Reginald Ruhland and Delbert Wilkinson. 3 grandsons and
2 great-grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazomanie, with Father John Silva officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 4-7pm at the Hooverson Funeral Home, Mazomanie, WI.
