Obituary

Ottilia "Tillie" Mittenzwei, age 86, a Medford/Stetsonville native and 62 year resident of Sauk Prairie, died on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. She was born in Medford, WI on June 25, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Martha (Ludwig) Kapfhamer. Ottilia had the distinction of being the 7th one in line of 11 children, and the first one born in the United States. She was united in marriage to Arthur H. Mittenzwei on June 28, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Stetsonville, WI. The couple lived in Prairie du Sac when first married and then moved to Sauk City. They were 62 year members of St. Aloysius Parish, celebrating their 50th anniversary there in 1997. Tillie was a stay-at-home wife and mother and helped her husband in his carpeting/linoleum business for many years until his retirement. She was a past president and member of St. Aloysius Christian Mothers and sang in the church choir for many years. She was also a member of the Jolly 16 Homemakers. She and her husband together, liked traveling, camping and fishing. She had a particular love of music, played several instruments and for several years kept busy singing in 5 different choruses.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur; 4 daughters Karen (Bruce) Poffinbarger of Stevens Point, Jayne (Donald) Couillard of Marshall, Elaine Harvey of Sauk City, Betty (Joseph) Niederklopfer of Lyndon Station; 2 sons Michael (Linda) Mittenzwei of Prairie du Sac, Patrick (Martha) Mittenzwei of Mazomanie; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Mercedes) Kapfhamer of Stetsonville; 3 sisters, Helen Goessl of Stetsonville, Viola Dickert of Land O'Lakes, FL, Leona (John) Steinmetz of Slinger; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Albert and Andrew Kapfhamer, both of Medford; 2 sisters, Marie Lewandowski of West Bend and Gertrude Bolz of Anchorage, AK; twin siblings, Robert and Theresa who died shortly after birth in Browning, Saskatchewan, Canada; a grandchild, Sarah Ruhamah Harvey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Sauk City, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010 with Fr. Jared Hood officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, where a rosary service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00am until 11:15am.
