Patsy Diane Ederer, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI, after living courageously with multiple sclerosis. She was born in Grinnell, IA, on February 3, 1952, to Keith and Dorothy (Gross) Downey. Patsy graduated in 1970 from Grinnell-Newberg High School, where she was a cheerleader, participated in musical theatre, and was nominated to her homecoming court. Her love for the arts led her to enroll at Ellsworth College, where she studied art. She was united in marriage to Fred Ederer on March 3, 1973, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain, WI. celebrating over 53 years of marriage. Together, they raised a family of six children and 16 grandchildren in the Plain and Prairie du Sac areas. Patsy was a gifted singer, often singing at weddings in church or in the Ederer Brothers band.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Ederer of Prairie du Sac; her five children: Michael (Leah) Ederer of Prairie du Sac, Lisa (Dean) Paskey of Baraboo, Timothy (Paige) Ederer of Leland, Laura (Richard) Showers of Leland, and Jason (Katya) Ederer of Trabuco Canyon, CA; her siblings, Chuck (Jeana) Downey of Bettendorf, IA, Gary (Becky) Downey of Grinnell, IA, and Mary (Reg) Wells of Grinnell, IA; and two brothers-in-law, Keith Jack of Montezuma, IA, and Denny Wilson of Newton, IA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Ederer; parents, Keith and Dorothy Downey; and sisters, Vicki (Downey) Jack and Becky (Downey) Wilson.
A visitation will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain, WI, at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 11, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am immediately following the visitation at St. Luke’s. A lunch will follow the burial.
