Obituary

Paul L. Ladd, age 85, went home peacefully to be with his Lord on Sat., Oct. 15, 2022. His family was at his bedside at Maplewood nursing home, after returning there for comfort care following a brief hospitalization.

He was born in Spring Green, WI on June 12, 1937, to his parents Alfie and Viola (Fuchs) Ladd. His family moved to Prairie du Sac when he was a child, and then he lived there throughout his life. He graduated from PDS High School in 1956, and attended North Central Christian College in Naperville, IL.

Of his employment history, his favorite was when he proudly worked alongside his father at the PDS Mautz paint store.

Paul married Karen Sprecher, on September 8, 1979, at the Blackhawk U-M Church in rural Sauk City. Their beloved son, Timothy Paul, joined the family a year later. Paul was so grateful to Karen for her devoted care to him so that he could remain at home until this past year. Tim assisted his mom with caring for his dad as often as he could. Paul always looked forward to greeting his son when he arrived home from work.

He had a strong Christian faith and was a long-standing member of the Concordia U-M Church, where he highly valued his church family and fellowship. He truly loved to pray and sing. He was a member of several choirs, which included church, college, Men of A-Chord, and the Hilltoppers. His favorite music was gospel and country, especially the Gaithers, Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Brothers, and Johnny Cash. He also always enjoyed the UW Band concerts.

He was an avid sports fan, often seen watching and "rooting on" the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, Bucks, or the Masters. Past hobbies were hunting, golfing, fishing, bowling, biking, ping-pong, and most recently, enjoyed regularly volunteering at the PDS Tripp Historical Museum for many years. He treasured being a long-time member with the local Optimist Club, and the friendships he had there. He also often fondly reminisced about his past travels, especially to Hawaii and Switzerland with his mother. And, Oh! How he cherished talking about his Norwegian heritage!

He always looked forward to family gatherings, taking rides in the family's Equinox, and eating out. His most recent celebrations were his 85 th birthday in June and his 43 rd wedding anniversary this past September.

His survivors include his wife and son; his sister, Linda (Steve) Messer; sisters-in-law, Marla Sprecher and Marilyn Sprecher; brother-in-law, Maurie Sprecher; nephews and nieces and their children; first cousin, Andrew Fuchs; and close friend of the family for many years, Barb Oelke.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Donald Ladd; brothers-in-law, Wil Sprecher and George Knuckles; sister-in-law, Marilyn Ladd; his special uncle and aunt, Wallace and Mary Fuchs; and other aunts and uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the dedicated staff at Maplewood and Sauk Prairie Healthcare for all the kindness and care given to Paul.

A burial service will be on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Prairie du Sac Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022 at 11:00 am at Concordia U-M Church in Prairie du Sac. Visitation will be at 10:00 am until the time of service.
