Obituary

Paul Gregory Ranzenberger passed away on July 26th, 2025, due to complications from a brain aneurysm, at age 56.  Paul was born on August 13th, 1968, in Prairie du Sac, WI to the late Reginald and Patricia Ranzenberger.   He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Brian Ranzenberger.

Paul married Sheri (Liegel) on June 29th,1996, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City, WI.  Together they had two children, Gage (20) and Addisyn (17).  Nothing mattered more to him than his kids.

Paul graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1987.  He was always on the court or field playing his favorite sports: basketball, football, and baseball.  According to his friends, he was the "best athlete they'd ever seen".  He spent most of his career as a Department Manager at Sentry Foods in Prairie du Sac, along with coaching football and baseball for many years for Sauk Prairie High School. Then in July 2019, he began a new career at the school district, working as a custodian at Bridges Elementary.  The children at Bridges got to know and love "Mr. Paul" so much that some of them would pack special treats in their lunchboxes to share with him, one of his favorites being "Crunchy Cheetos".   Because of his daughter Addisyn, he learned to love the sport of gymnastics. Paul was proud of watching his "Booey" do her flips and turns both in the pool, and on the gymnastics mat. Paul's other passion was coaching many kids in both youth and high school football and baseball.  He and his sidekick, Darin Pape, just came off a great baseball season with a Regional win and a trip to Sectionals! What he cherished the most was the privilege of coaching his son Gage throughout his youth football years, as well as during high school baseball.  Paul was a coach at heart but a father first.

Paul enjoyed camping with Sheri's sisters and their families, and fishing trips in Canada with the boys.  In the fall, you could always find Paul in front of the TV watching the Badgers on Saturdays and the Packers on Sundays.  If neither of them was playing, you could guarantee he would find a team to watch as long as it was football.

He is survived by his wife Sheri and their two children Gage and Addisyn, his sisters and brothers-in-law Julie Miller (Jeff); Sandra Enge (Tim); and Jenny Pickhard (Nathan).  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Kaitlyn and Kassandra, Dawson and Bella, Dakota, Luke, and Natalie.

Paul's family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the doctors, nurses, Father Pat, and Sister Georgeanne, in the ICU at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Hospice Care team from SSM Health. To all of them, please know that your words, kindness, and support brought great comfort to our family.  Finally, we would like to thank our family, friends, neighbors, and the entire community for their tremendous support, love, and kindness during this difficult time.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 31st at St. Luke's Church, 1240 Nachreiner Ave, Plain, WI 53577. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Friday Aug 1st, 2025, also at St. Luke's, with a luncheon provided afterwards. A private burial will be held at a later time.
