Penny Eileen Bowen, our loving sister and friend passed away March 22nd from a degenerative brain disease. Penny was born November 22, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Richard and Peggy Bowen. She grew up in St Louis Park, Minnesota. Graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1969. Attended Minneapolis Art Institute studying art, later attended Mankato State Tech College, and graduated with an Associate Degree in Commercial Art
Later in life Penny moved to the Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin to be closer to family. While living in Wisconsin, Penny pursued a career in health care, and earned her CNA license while at Maplewood Nursing home, where she was employed for 15 years.
Penny was a devout member of Jehovah's Witnesses of Baraboo congregation. Studying scriptures daily and participating faithfully with other church members her entire adult life, Penny believed firmly in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the multitude of humanity. (Acts 24:15)
Penny had many interests including gardening, swimming, (stemming from her membership at St. Louis Park Swim Club) and time with her family.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Peggy Bowen from Minnesota.
She is survived by siblings, Michael Paul Bowen, (Terri Nomura) of WA, Mary Margaret Bowen Esenbock (Bill Esenbock) of CA., Barbara Bowen Lemm (Fred Lemm) of WI., Richard William Bowen (Patricia Star Bowen) of WA.; Nephews, Will Esenbock of CA., Erik Michael Helgesen of WI., Lars David Helgesen of WY. Nieces, Ericka Detlefsen and Jessica Detlefsen of CA. Cousins, Steve Bowen (Ellen), Jim Bowen (Val) of MN./UK, Paul Raguet of MN, Karen Raguet of Ill, Tommy Raguet of Mexico, Jeff Bowen (Joannie) of MN./FL., and Diane Bowen of MN.
We wish to thank all the staff at the Sauk Prairie Hospital, Prairie Clinic, Sauk County Human Services for all the loving care and wonderful relationships Penny and our family developed over many years. Penny, my sweet sister taught us many things. Swimming and tea time will not be the same, but I promised her I would not quit and will carry on her legacy of love, acceptance, and her generosity.
