Obituary

Randy Lee Carpenter, age 69, unexpectedly passed away doing what he enjoyed; working outside cutting wood at home on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024.  He was born in Baraboo on Dec. 15, 1954 to the late George and Arline (Bills) Carpenter.  Randy was a graduate of Sauk Prairie High School; class of 1973.   He was united in marriage to Kathy Schell on Dec. 26, 1989.

Randy was hands on with everything he did, he could fix and love to tinker with just about anything he could get his hands on.  He formerly worked as a cowboy and cattle wrangler in Friona, TX before returning to Wisconsin where he worked at the Baraboo Airport for Cirrus Aircraft, manufacturing planes; served as Township Patrolman for the Township of Honey Creek; worked at Fish Building Supply before starting his own dump trucking business, Carpenter Trucking; and later working for Badger Plumbing and Excavating until he retired.  In retirement Randy battled and beat cancer in 2019.  He loved to spend his time at home with Kathy and being outdoors.  Randy had a love of the simple things, old country music, his vintage snowmobiles, enjoyed and followed NASCAR, hunting and fishing, cutting wood or going for a walk by the creek with Kathy.  He made his own muzzleloaders and several bows that he used for hunting.  He was proud of his family and looked forward to their visits.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathy; he was dad to, Shawn (Tiffany Baker) Schell, Cassandra Carpenter, Samantha (Ryan) Huelsing; and grandpa to, Jack and Hank Schell, Bransyn Carpenter, Herschel Huelsing and Johnathan and Ashlynn Hannah; and brother to Peggy Maier, Roger (Deanna) Carpenter, Gayle (Paul) Vosen, Amy Carpenter; he is further survived by his mother in-law, Gladys Mazerek and Randy's loyal dog, Opie; numerous nieces, nephews' other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; George and Arline Carpenter; his brothers, George Jr., and Neal; and father in-law, Dean Schell and step-father in-law, Claude Mazerek.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City.  A celebration of Randy's life will be held Sunday, Feb. 25th at Juniors Tavern, Leland starting at 12:00 noon.
