Obituary

Reuben C. Unke, age 101, went to be with his Lord and Savior on WednesdaReuben C. Unke, age 101, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug 19, 2009 at Pine Villa, Prairie du Sac.
He was born in Denzer Township on January 4, 1908 the son of August and Ella (Enge) Unke. Reuben moved with his family to the Town of Westpoint in 1911, where he farmed on the family farm on Unke Road all of his life. The farm will be eligible for designation as a Wisconsin Family Century Farm in 2011. He married Anita Attoe on June 24, 1937, and was married for 62 years when Anita preceded him in death on July 23, 1999. Reuben was active in many rural and community organizations including the Sauk City Creamery Board of Directors and the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital Board of Directors 1968-1983. He was active in his church as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. Reuben was a charter member of both the Lake Wisconsin Free Church, Lodi, Wi and the Sauk Prairie Evangelical Free Church, Prairie du Sac, Wi. His life was guided by and he encouraged others to live by teaching the Proverbs 3:5-6. "Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." He is survived by three children, Velma (Karl) Marquardt of Middleton, Rolland (Patti) Unke of Lodi and Beverly Boos of Burlington; a son-in-law, Harold Meyer of Spring Grove, IL; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherill Meyer; 2 grandsons, Phillip Unke and Craig Meyer; son in law Orville Boos; and two sisters, Vera Enge and Marvel Carncross. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 11am at Sauk Prairie Evangelical Free Church, with Pastors Dwight Pulsfus and Roy Anderson officiating. Friends may call from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, August 21 at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City and at the church on Saturday after 10:00 a.m.
