Obituary

Richard "Dick" E. Bambrough, age 71, passed away May 12, 2011 from pancreatic cancer at his home surrounded by family. He was born November 12, 1939 in Madison to the late Elmer "Connie" and Martha (Opheim) Bambrough. He was united in marriage to Donna Rogers at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo on October 7, 1961. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He worked at Badger Army Ammunition Plant for over 37 years, retiring in 2003. He took on the challenge of driving school bus for the Sauk Prairie School District, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Throughout his life he was involved in stock car racing, from handing his dad tools as a young boy to building and running several of his own at the area racetracks. Dick was an avid Badger and Packers fan, and enjoyed watching NASCAR on TV. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and passed on this enjoyment to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandsons. He helped to establish the Sauk County Chapter of Pheasants Forever and served as a board member for several years. Sunday was always family get-together day which he looked forward to family and friends coming over.

Dick will be dearly missed by his wife of almost 50 years, Donna; son, Philip of Madison; daughter, Julie of Rock Springs; three grandchildren, Richard, Heather, and Jessica Showers; and his four great-grandsons, Michael and Micaleb Wirig, Peyton Knapton, and Hunter Harrison. Dick is also survived by his brother, Howard of Kevil, KY; sister Charlene Nelson of Kevil, KY; father in-law Donald Rogers of Baraboo; brother in-law Donald B. (Jean) Rogers of Baraboo; many other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie; son in-law, Michael Showers; sister, Shirley (Clifford) Olson; mother in-law, Lorraine Rogers; and sister in-law , Judy (Bill) Kacynski.


The family would like to thank his friends, Dave Swanson, Tom and Trudy Buelow, Jim Slezak, Russell and Norma Fenske, and Helen Jaedike, who visited often during his illness. A special thank you to the staff at Hospice Care and his caretakers and the St. Clare Dialysis Center.


A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, at 11:00 am at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, LELAND. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, May 15 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City and one hour prior to the service at church.
