IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Dick"
L. Labrie
April 4, 1943 – October 24, 2025
Richard (Dick) L. LaBrie
Richard passed to the ages and his Lord on October 24, 2025, in Madison, WI after a long and courageous battle with Metastatic Prostate Cancer.
A Christian Service, Visitation starting at 10:00 am and the Service at 11:00 am will be held at Holy Wisdom Monastery, 4200 County Road M, Middleton, WI on October 30, 2025. Burial will follow later in the Middleton Junction Cemetery, Madison.
Richard was born to Gordon and Pearl (Seraphine) LaBrie on April 4, 1943, at Saint Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point, WI.
He attended the University of Wisconsin; Stevens Point and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Letters and Science. He then moved to Madison and worked for the State of Wisconsin as a computer programmer trainee for two years after which he became a staff programmer. With additional education he advanced his career path to become a Systems Analyst and then Project Management Leader. Richard received a Certificate of Proficiency in Electronic Accounting Systems from George Washington University, and he held Competency Certification in Systems. He was pleased to be accepted into the two-year Wisconsin Career Candidate program for training college graduates looking to make a career in state government. He enjoyed his career until it was shortened by an insidious debilitating disease called chronic fatigue syndrome from which he never completely recovered.
Dick met his wife Meg Claflin, an RN in Madison on the church steps. After a three-year courtship they married at Saint Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton, WI on October 18, 1975.
Richard enjoyed life and being with people. His favorite interests included serving his churches in various ways, computer stuff, travel, being adventurous trying different foods, playing bridge and especially spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Dick is survived by the love of his life Meg (Margaret), his sister Bonnie (Donald) Wiczek of Stevens Point, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Meg thanks everyone who assisted him during his final journey, especially Dr. Joshua Lang at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and the staff from Agrace Hospice Care. Special thanks to his Spiritual Ministers who walked with him along the way following his diagnosis.
Dick never gave up HOPE, the hope of his faith or the hope of medicine.
Memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice Care, Holy Wisdom Monastery Prairie, or Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
