IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard "Dick"
L. White
December 5, 1934 – October 23, 2024
Richard "Dick" Leo White, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born December 5, 1934, to the late Edward and Agnes (Powers) White at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Richard was the youngest of 10 children and graduated in 1952 from Arena High School. He was united in marriage to Janet Elva Arnold on October 23, 1959, at St. John's Mill Creek Church. The young couple lived in rural Arena where Richard continued working on the family farm. They later settled in the Mazomanie area to raise their three children. Richard worked at Gisholt and St. Mary's Hospital before landing in the construction industry. He enjoyed many years with Gabes/InterCon Construction as a laboring foreman. He was a proud member of the Laborer's International Union of North America Local 464 for 54 years.
Richard was a longtime active member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazomanie. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and throwing horseshoes. Richard and Janet ran many horseshoe tournaments together over the years at the St. Barnabas Church Picnic, Wild West Days, Black Earth Field Days and Arena Fun Fest to name a few. The couple also enjoyed hitting the road in their RV and traveling throughout the Midwest. Richard took great pride in maintaining his garden and lawn and loved hearing people comment on how nice everything looked. Richard was an avid Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers Football and Basketball fan. He was very committed to family and friends and rarely missed a gathering. He would always try to strike up a game of four handed or six handed euchre, no matter where he was.
Richard is survived by his children, Daughter-in-law Sharon of Oxford, David (Janine) of Sauk City and Sandy (Jon) Orcutt of Mazomanie. 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chadd) Sorum, Jennifer White, Jeffrey (Glenn) White, Chelsea White, Brigham (Emily) White, Adria (Adam) Kast, Tyler Orcutt and Justin Orcutt. 10 great grandchildren and brother Raymond (Darlene) White of Arena.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet and son Jeff. 6 brothers, Robert, Francis Earl, Bernard, Donald Paul, John (Jack), and Charles. 2 sisters, Marion Butler and Helen Loy.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Hooverson Funeral Home in Mazomanie from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Thursday, October 31, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazomanie. Luncheon to follow at Grandma Mary's Cafe in Arena.
Richard's family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at The Pines Assisted Living Facility and Agrace Hospice for the amazing care they took of Richard.
