Obituary

Robert Carson Bass (Buzz) age 87 passed away Fri., Dec. 14, 2018 at Maplewood with family by his side. He was born Feb. 3, 1931 in Lancaster, Wisconsin.  He entered the Army in 1949 and served in the 2 nd Infantry Division while in Korea from 1951-1952.  In 1952 he was honorably discharged and married Donna Rae Lyon on Sept. 7 th , 1952.

After marriage Bob worked for Stouts market in Fennimore until 1956 when they moved to Richland Center where he worked as a meat cutter.  In 1958 he and Donna moved to Mazomanie where he spent the next 6 years working for John Trager.  Needing to stay busy Bob also managed a traveling roller skating rink in the late 50's bringing joy to kids in the Richland Center, Ridgeway and Mazo areas.  In 1964 Bob accepted a job with the State of Wisconsin in the Physical Plant where he worked until retirement in 1990.  Bob always needed purpose and being the hard worker he was he joined Mazo Market after retirement.

If Bob was home there is a good chance you would find him in the yard. Although he would complain about how much work it was, he loved his gardens, hated the many leaves that needed raking, but always made sure the yard looked great.   He always enjoyed cooking on the grill and we swear the neighborhood kids could smell it from miles away. Many of them would show up at 6:00 because they knew that was supper time.  Bob & Donna loved to dance and for many years they spent their Saturday nights getting all dressed up and would head out to see Gene Kezer's band.  Bob and Donna also enjoyed watching football games, visiting the casino, and their beloved cats.

He is survived by 2 sons, Richard Bass (Lani Rochon) and Michael (Dee) Bass of Mazomanie; sister, Janis Adams of Dickyville; sister in law, Charlene Bass of California;  5 grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Wheeler, Evelyn Gust, Amy (Josh) Andreas, Jacob Bass & Terrance Bass; 8 great grandchildren, Oceona, Brianna, Dominik, John, Abigail, Willow, Emmaline & Jaimeson; his cat, Sydney and many nieces, nephews, & friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Lyon) Bass; daughter Kathleen Roys; his parents, Clifford & Beatrice (Kress) Bass; brother, Jack Bass; sisters & brother in-laws, Doris (Justin) Donovan, Vivian (Roger) Garner & Richard Adams; three nephews, Dennis Garner, Jerry Bass, Joey Bass; and a niece, Julie Weber.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Sat., Dec. 22, 2018 at Hooverson Funeral Home, Hwy 14 West, Mazomanie.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

A special thanks to Maplewood of Sauk City for their years of care. Especially the wonderful staff in the Evergreen wing for always keeping a smile in his heart and Agrace Hospice for the special care they provided in his last couple days.
