Robert J. Cushing, age 80 , died on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born on August 15, 1929 in Greenleaf, Kansas, the son of James and Carrie (Unfred) Cushing. Bob was a United States Veteran having served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Wilhelm on June 28, 1953 in Sauk City. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1991. He later married Lorene Anspaugh on April 25, 1992. Bob was employed as an electrician for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Union Local #159 in Madison and Local # 226 Topeka, Kansas, and was a member of Sauk Prairie V.F.W. Post #7694. Bob achieved a pilot's license in June 1974 and enjoyed sharing his love of flying with many people in his community.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene Aldrine Anspaugh Cushing of Prairie du Sac; his children, Sharlene (Al) Zuhlke of Monroe, Barbara Rick) Gruwell of Lodi, Karen (Mike) Eberlein of Ft. Smith, AR, Joyce (Nathan) Brown of Marshall, Fritz (Peggy) Aldrine of Dallas,TX, Ed (Regina) Aldrine of Topeka,KS, and Mike (Sharon) Aldrine of Cedar Park , TX; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by an infant son, James Cushing; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Sauk City, with Father Alex Navarro officiating. Burial will be in the Sauk City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, with a Memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
