Obituary

Robert R. Miller, age 75, of Black Earth, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at the Heartland Country Village Nursing Home in Black Earth after a long battle with lung cancer, with recent complications of Covid19. He was born on June 29, 1945, in Richland Center, WI, the son of Raymond and Elizabeth (Persinger) Miller. Bob and his family moved to Black Earth from Madison when Bob was in the eighth grade, and he graduated with the last graduating class of the Black Earth High School in 1963. After graduation, Bob went to work at Carnes Corporation in Verona, WI, until his enlistment in the Marine Corps in 1965 with two of his best friends. Bob served his country in Vietnam, earning the rank of Corporal, and returned to work at Carnes after his tour of duty was over in 1967, where he remained until his retirement in 2012.

Bob enjoyed sports, and coaching little league baseball and the American Legion baseball team were some of the highlights of his life. In 1994 Bob was honored to be named to coach the 1994 Southern All Stars at Milwaukee County Stadium. He also loved to bowl and play euchre.

Bob was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazomanie, WI, and the Knights of Columbus Council #7811. He also was a member and past commander of the Black Earth American Legion Post #313.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, of 48 years, a daughter, Konnie (Jeff) Selgren of Minocqua, and two sons, Robert, Jr. (Amy) of Black Earth, and Larry (Sarah) of Cross Plain; a sister, Cindy Miller of Black Earth; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter; as well as nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl.

A private family Mass will be held. Burial will be in St. Barnabas Cemetery, with military rites provided by the American Legion Post #313.

Bob had a very full and happy life. He was a people person and could talk and get along with everyone. For this reason, a "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date when this pandemic is over and it is safe for people to congregate together and share their memories.

I would like to extend my personal "thank you" to the nurses and staff at Heartland Village Nursing Home for the loving care given to Bob during his illness. I hope they realize how much I appreciated their kindness. To these wonderful people this is not a job, but a calling. Thank you.

Rest in peace our hero;

You will be greatly missed!
